Abstract

Czech Republic belongs to the most developed and industrialized economies of the former communist countries in Central and Eastern Europe. The paper is focused on Czech agricultural sector which has been facing significant transformation processes connected to market economy transition. Ongoing restructuring processes are accompanied with shift of resources, output and employment within different sectors. These issues can only be addressed adequately by disaggregated modeling approaches.

The objective of the paper is to analyze aspects of market equilibrium of Czech agricultural sector in the context of an opened economy with the use of a general equilibrium approach.

In the paper, a computable general equilibrium (CGE) model which considers external links with foreign partners and includes mutual links of agricultural sectors at a disaggregated level is constructed.

The CGE model is based on data provided by Czech Research Institute of Agricultural Economics and Czech Statistical Office.

Constructed CGE model will serve to assess the impacts of considered policy scenarios on the equilibrium in the respective sectors of agriculture.

Pieces of knowledge introduced in this paper resulted from solution of a research intention MSM 6046070906 „Economics of resources of Czech agriculture and their efficient use in frame of multifunctional agri-food systems“.
