The Corporatisation of Hospitals

Petr Háva, Pavla Mašková - Hanušová

Summary

The objective of the paper is to analyse alternatives of organisational arrangements of the hospital care in the Czech Republic and their respective social consequences.   Methodological approaches used include selected methods of public policy analysis and findings from the international comparison of health-care systems.  It includes evaluation of healthcare systems discussed in the last 10 years internationally (World Bank, World Health Organization, OECD, European Observatory on Health Care Systems and Policies) and various models of corporatisation (corporate governance) and determination of major differences between public and private corporations, and their mixed form.  The criteria for comparing various types of hospital corporatisation relate primarily to the nature of legal entities and their legal capacity, and to the relations of legal entities to the systems of public and private law and human rights.  We expect to clarify the role and interests of different actors in the ongoing policy discourse from the point of view of human rights and health care, health care outcomes and quality of health care services.
