There are numerous factors that impede the development of the SME sector. Additionally, the specificity of the marginalized regions can be characterized by the following: low level of economic development, inhabitants’ low income level which in turn results in low demand, poor infrastructure (transport, educational, etc.), social pathologies, increased migration processes and lack of local entrepreneurship.
In order to facilitate the development of the SME sector in the marginalised regions it is necessary to prepare a strategy taking into account the specific conditions the business entities encounter in these regions so that the development of the small and medium enterprises can be managed effectively.
The purpose of the article is to analyse and assess the influence that the regional marginalization has on the management of the SME development as well as outline model assumptions of development for businesses functioning in the marginalized regions.
