The paper is concerned with the analysis of the demand after electricity in the Czech Republic and investigates, which of the possible, economically acceptable and proven determinants influence it. The exogenous variables, which, with statistical significance, explain the electricity consumption in households or in the sector of wholesale and entrepreneurs, are later used in regression models of various constructions for estimating the future trend of electricity consumption.

The extrapolation of the time series of the exogenous (by using exponential smoothing method) and endogenous variables (by using the least squares model construction method), leads to better estimation of the manufacturing capacities in the electricity production and respectively to the optimal choice of the energy mix in the Czech Republic.
