The aim of the research is to identify the actual tools used in controlling enterprises in the Czech Republic and focus on monitoring trends in their use. These trends have been influenced by the natural evolution in time as well as the impact of economic recession. Although not all companies had to cope with significant problems or issues of survival, virtually all were gradually forced into intervention in the financial management due to reduced demand. Additionally, most of the companies admitted shortcomings especially in working capital management or inadequate risk management and unreasonable expectations of growth that occurred in baseless optimism in strategic placement of funds into real assets.

The research builds on previous questionnaire surveys and processing researches, which we participated on in the past. The survey with selected questions was distributed for the first time in 1998 and completed in cooperation with the Controller Institut Prague. After two years, the same questionnaire was conducted in another independent investigation of a smaller scale ( in 2000). Key questions from the questionnaire concerning controlling were part of a large survey in the research of our faculty in 2007 (before the economic recession). We have decided to repeat the business survey with the same questions again after 6 years (in 2013).The respondents' answers will be treated with the help of statistical methods. Processing will enable viewing the results in space (basic quantitative analysis). Another objective is to monitor the development of time series.

Expected results of the analysis of partial results from the years 1998, 2000, 2007 and 2013 will allow us to answer the question of whether the trend leads to a logical improvement in using structures of controlling instruments. Monitored will be the area of its actual use, but our primary interest concerns the results in the areas of networking, context, tools and targets, using more sophisticated tools instead of the simple, submission of operational to the strategic tools ones. If the output signals any underestimation of control in some parts (the expected area is the actual use of strategic tools), we would then like to track the status and development in this section.
