Valuation of copyrights: Military technology

In recent years, there has been an increase in enforcement rights related to copyright ownership. People in different countries protested against the signing of the AntiCounterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA). This process has caused an increase in court cases related to compensation for different copyright owners as well as commercial disputes between the companies.

Development of computer technology in general was largely based on the introduction of new types of computer software, which can be considered as one of the types of intellectual property (IP). The development of a proper method for calculating the value of different types of intellectual property is an important task in the current economic climate. It is important for investment officers, as well as other decision makers, to help in assessing financial value as well as methods of developing new technologies. The current paper is a case study analysis of valuation software for drone control. The method is based on scenario analysis and discounted cash flow (DCF) valuation.

Risk analysis methods were used to examine the uncertainty encompassing the main variables projected in a forecasting model and to estimate the impact of risk on the projected results.

The development of a proper method for calculating the value of copyrights and related rights is an important task in the current economic climate. The following common methods are used for valuation of copyrights: market compensation, income approach, and cost approach.

Common techniques for the valuation of intellectual property were adjusted to apply them for valuation of military technologies when market comparisons were lacking.
