Waldemar Tarczynski, Ph.D. and Mirosława Gazinska, Ph.D. Department of Economics and Management, University of Szczecin, ul. Mickiewicza 64, Szczecin, 71-101, Poland

In the bibliography of the subject, emphasis is placed on the connection between the capital market and economy. The article presents an attempt to examine whether in Poland relevant statistical regularities in this domain can be observed. The study involves relationships between the country’s capital market and humane development. The capital market and humane development have been described by the use of aggregate variables, whose construction was based on stock indices and socio-economic variables. For this purpose, taxonomic methods have been used. An analogical study has been carried out for European Union member countries. A comparative analysis of Poland with EU member countries has been conducted. Data from years 2000-2007 was used for this purpose.
