Objectives:
Ontario is trying to change the mode of physician paractice away from solo practice to group practice They are
encouraging family health teams (with other disciplines such as nutritionists. social workers included in the new
model). . This is an interdisciplinary study but as economists we are interested in the incentives when comparing
the two models. We are interested in how physicians and patients relate to the changes and what has changed in the
way health care is delivered.
Data:
There will be focus groups of randomly-selected patients who will be quizzed about the changes they have observed in
the health care they receive. There will be one-on-one interviews conducted with a set of physicians who moved from
the one model to the other.
Results:
We expect varying opinions about the quality and quantity of health care delivered under the two models but we expect
the use of supplementary professions, such as nutiritonists to have positive effects on the health of the patients.
