Outsourcing as an Instrument for Creating Jobs in Family Businesses

José Manuel Saiz Álvarez, Ph.D., Berzosa Campus, Nebrija University, Hoyo de Manzanares, Madrid, 28240, Spain

From the generalization of the so-called Kodak effect during the decade of the nineties, outsourcing has turned into an instrument of creation of stable and highly competitive employment, on having remained in the companies the hard core (the most valuable intellectual capital). In view of the process of economic globalization in which the managerial world is immersed, the competition is realized not only among big corporations, but also among SME, family businesses included. In this work we make a DAFO analysis of the outsourcing applied to the family business, as well as the PEST conditions for its introduction into the industry. The whole analysis will be applied to the new Europe, countries that have started forming a greater part of the current EU 27.

The objective of the work is two-fold: (1) To analyze outsourcing as a tool for creating jobs favouring the creation and further strength of SME; and (2) To compare this strategy to others used by SME in a highly-competitive world. Given these objectives, this paper aims to be practical for CEO that work in SME in order to foster their economic results and to create social and economic wealth in the economy as a whole.

To reach these goals data from Eurostat will be used, close with direct information received from family businesses that export to the new Europe. We shall try to demonstrate that human skills, know-how, formation and practical experience are the bases for SME to survive. In this sense, outsourcing will be a key to implement a new economic path driven to success, as the best intellectual capital will remain at SME, while strengthen the firm by expanding itself around. New opportunities for Spanish SME are arising in the new Europe, above all after the 2004 accession of these EU new members States. Spanish authorities have the key responsibility to impulse SME towards these countries. In this sense, this paper will also disseminate some new ideas to impulse SME, specially family business, in the new Europe.
